Time to do some training

I think it is time to get down to some serious training. On the 24th and 25th of this month I have the Lamington Classic and on the 20th, 21st and 22nd of November I have the Endeavour 500 Summer Relay.

The Lamington Classic is run in sub-tropical rain forest betwenn Binnaburra and O'Reilly's on the Lamington Plateau which is west of the Gold Coast and very close to the Queensland / New South Wales border. We run 21k out on Saturday and return on Sunday, staying overnight in a bunkhouse. The event is celebrating its 40th anniversary and is the oldest trail run event in Australia. The field limit is 75, a special concession this year. It is usually limited to 50 runners.

The 500K relay is a fund raising event for the Endeavour foundation. I think this will be my 5th. I missed last year because I was overseas. The event is run over three days and this year will have about 17 teams of about 18 runners each. It is very enjoyable but very tough. I usually finish the weekend feeling absolutely stuffed.

You could really use my ipod video on that sort of run Rob. Sounds wonderful! Let us know how it goes.

Some great events coming up Rob. I love the idea of that 500k relay.

Now I'm left wondering what Tigger will say? Or will she just go away?

And let me win the poetry stakes!

I was planning on doing the Lamington this year before other events took over. I have walked that track many times and it would be a beautiful run.

Thanks for the donation. Much appreciated.

Hope to catch up with you out on the roads sometime soon (but certainly not 500k!!)

Wow the Lamington Classic sounds great. I wish I knew about it beforehand. Everytime someone has mentioned it to me before i thought it was an eating contest :)) so thanks for the update.

Have fun and don't forget your race reports.

Ummmm don't you think you've left the training a bit late ? :))))))

Ewen, now let me say
I simply won't go away
As I would hate to deprive
Besides, the poetry must survive!

Otherwise Eddie the man
The leader with the plan (?)
To his considerable dismay
Would have nothing to say
As we set off on another run
In the blazing Queensland sun!

Let there be no doubt
At times I think he wants to shout
At me and the bad verse
Which only seems to get worse
As you and I compete
No mention of BAD feet!

But to suggest that you will win
Really did make me grin
Why not just concede defeat
Under the pounding of Tigger feet?

Qld poets are like their flies
You just keep swatting to no avail
Around your head and in your eyes
So persistent - I start to wail

Ultra poets worse - write too much
They should be having another run
Pesky blighters - ruin my lunch
A weekend BBQ is no longer fun

But they can't stand weather cold
That's good! All down here say
And if I might be slightly bold
Queensland poets will stay away!

Ewen, no need to scoff!
But, the gloves are off!
We all know Qlders are the best
And as for the rest
Their one heart’s desire
To be a Qlder they aspire!

What a wonderful weekend
Surrounded by family and friend
In a beautiful part of Queensland
From which, southerners should be band!

Arriving at the start
Runners could take heart
That all efforts had been made
To ensure it would be a good day ...

An organisor known as Digger
Who is known to give Tigger
A very hard time
Even without evidence of a crime!

Knowing the fragile state of her feet
And missing a sweep
Said, are you up for the task?
It isn’t much to ask!

She agreed to assist
Despite the temptation to resist
And so began the “fun”
In the blazing Qld sun.

The Sat run was basically a walk
That gave Tigger plenty of time to talk!
We reached the finish mark
4hrs + after the start!

This wasn’t part of the Tigger plan
Where was Eddie the Man?
Is that him with a limp?
Or was he just being a wimp?

On Sun Tigger wanted to go
Like Eddie, before the main show
But it wasn’t to be
As it was left to me

To collect every arrow
And to admire the odd sparrow
By the time she reached the finish line
She was not in a good state of mind

More than 8 hrs on the trail
She was looking very pale
Eddie didn’t look too bad
A good time had been had

As for Tigger
Ewen don’t you snigger
With blood sugar dangerously low
Husband said, we better go!

Now Ewen, let it be said
That as you were in your warm bed
Eddie the man did show
That even on trails he can go
At an impressive pace
Even if it's supposed to be a run, not a race!

As for this Qlder who feels the cold
She did her best to be bold!
In the face of some aggression
And completed her designated mission!

Some silly things does Tigger
So I reserve the right to snigger,
Being a sweep in the blazing sun
Perhaps the dumbest thing she's done!
