The start of a tough Summer

My Mum is home again after a week in hospital undergoing all sorts of tests which did not show up any problems. She is frustrated with her total lack of energy but says that if there is nothing wrong with her then she just has to get on with life. Quite a statement from an 87 year old.

My running has been going OK over the past couple of weeks. On Sunday 8th I tackled a 28k from Park Road. My buddie Tigger was not able to run because one to the Tigger cubs was very ill in hospital and the other was very ill at home.

Thursday 12th was the Cool Night Classic, a 5.2K race in Brisbane City. I did my first CNC in 2001. That was my first ever race and the start for my running life. On Thursday I finished the 5.2 in 22m18s and came third out of 35 in the M55-59 category. I was pleased with that.

On Sunday 15th Tigger and I set out from Park Road at 5AM. Tigger has been successful in gaining entry to the Cradle Mountain 82k Ultra in Tasmania in February 2010. Yesterday was the first day with the mandatory back pack so time had to be taken to get the pack adjusted properly. this is really important and running with a pack is a vital part of Tigger's training. I anticipate some tough long runs during summer which hopefully will see Tigger ready for Cradle Mountain and me ready for a good London Marathon.

You really got into London Rob?
Tell us more!

We all know Eddie is the man
The leader with the plan!
He is also swift of feet
Regardless of the heat!

But with Tigger feeling slack
And problems with her back pack
Could he endure the pain
As Tigger did complain?

About the failings of the human race
(Ignoring her VERY slow pace)
People's lack of compassion
Their failure to take appropriate action...

Eventually we returned to the start
With NO strain on Eddie's heart
To have a good joke
About the amount Tigger spoke

Eddie did indeed
Assist a friend in need
Who was feeling very sad
About the many bad weeks she had had

It's good to have a friendly ear
When waters are a little rough -
Tigger has one with Rob, no fear
She talks while they do their stuff
Training for far-off exotic races
London and Tassie - far away places!

P.S. Good to hear your Mum's getting on with life Rob - a great attitude!

They say this weekend will be hot
As Eddie endures a LONG trot
So remember you need to drink
Or your legs will sink
Into the ground
And then take awhile to rebound!

Yes Ewen Tigger has spoke
And yes, it's a joke
That she's advising Eddie of a plan
When she know's he's the man
Who always gets it right
And always up for a "fight"

After a tough weekend in the heat
Eddie was feeling beat
To begin with he tried to hide
Surely Tigger was on his side?

Eventually Tigger made her suggestion
Perhaps forgetting to mention
That the odd hill would be steep
Particularly given the heat!

Eddie being the man
Agreed to the mad plan
So off they did go
Tigger saying the pace would be slow.

After several hours of up and down
They headed back towards town
Searching for any bit of shade
"Character"had been made!

Now Ewen don't despair
As everyone who was there
Knows Eddie wanted to give Tigger the flick
Over the nearest cliff!

Today things were in reverse
It was Tigger who wanted to curse
Eddie the man
The leader with the plan!

With 5 kilos on her back
Tigger tried not to be slack
As Eddie set a reasonable pace
"It's training for your race!"

Ewen have no fear
Eddie didn't go near
The edge of a cliff
So no chance of the flick!

Tigger, haven't got time,
to make this a rhyme...

One of our group is also running Cradle Mountain, but she's not up to 5kgs on the back yet... although she ran her longest run ever on the weekend - 52ks.

Now Ewen is a show off
Who just had to scoff
At Tigger's poor form
We need a good storm!

Eddie do a 52k run
In the blazing Qld sun?
Even at a trot
The answer would be not!
