GC, Less than 2 weeks

It is now less than 2 weeks to the Gold Coast marathon. As I wasn't able to do my long run last Sunday due to minding my grandchildren, I went out for 35K yesterday. Even though it is getting a bit close to the marathon I really felt that I needed those extra Ks in my legs. It took me 3 hours to do, some of it in pouring rain, so I was not pushing myself too hard. Even so, I still have not been able to get my head round the fact that when I am doing a training run I feel as if I am working hard and couldn't run faster if my life depended on it, yet in the race I can work harder and run faster and for a longer distance. After a race I always ask myself "how did I do that?".

With the GC almost upon us
It's time to be honest!
Fast Eddie will indeed
Be the man with speed!
He has done the miles
Not always with smiles
Now he's ready to race
At a record breaking pace!
Eddie, no need to fear
Your time IS here
Now go do that sun
In the blazing Qld sun (?)

I often wonder about that too Rob.
It seems that when the mind knows that you are really set on finishing a marathon it will give up and tell your body to cooperate.

But in the long runs in training you mind makes it hard all the way cause it thinks there is a chance you'll come to your senses and stop running. I mean it's only a training run after all ;)

I fear I must snigger
When I read what Tigger
Says about blazing sun
In Queensland - get real!
It's always raining up there
Almost more than I can bear
Rob won't have much fun
Wearing a raincoat for the run

Hey Rob, 35k isn't too late. Try doing a Criniti, and run 35kers next Tuesday and Wednesday.

That Anna broke the drought
There can be no doubt
But Ewen, be a nice bloke
Picture Eddie running in a raincoat!
He'll have to run with the guy in a skirt,
Or maybe the one with the Superman shirt!
No matter how much he does shine
When he hits the finish line
The fans will all be there
To confirm no skin was bare!
After all, he will have to run
In the "blazing" Queensland sun!

Thanks Scott. As to Tigger and Ewen...what can I say!

Ewen, maybe I am wrong?
Eddie may prefer a song!
That would surely effect his time
Trying to escape bad rhyme!
As his fellow runners did sing
Eddie would have no choice but to fling
Himself into the race
And up the pace!
Ewen, for me this will come at a price
So Eddie, I ask that you be nice!
As we got out for our Sun run
Searching for the blazing Qld sun?

Ewen have NO fear!
The time is here.
Given, Eddie's bad joke
And the little I spoke
Whilst trying to keep the pace
I'd say Eddie is set for the race
To go under 3.10
But what then?

If Eddie busts three hours ten
The next mark for him to slate
Is three hours and seconds eight
Like my mate Scott from the land of Yen
Running so near, and yet so far
Such a time would make him a star
And fodder for many a cruel joke
Missed by THAT much, we would say
While holding up fingers to display
A distance that's ever so small
Hardly measurable is my call
Scott claims it's huge but we all know
Three inches is nothing to brag about
Like a tiny flake on a mountain of snow
That makes no difference to the show
But in the pub afterwards, it's his shout!
