Something to Smile About

Today it was back to the track to do some more 800s. This time I drove down then ran 5 laps to warm up. I was equipped with a stopwatch today. I did 6 repeats today and walked between each for the same time as it took me to run the prior 800m. My times were: 3:25, 3:21, 3:22, 3:21, 3:22, 3:18. That is an average of 3:21. I was thinking I would average around 3:40 hence the smile.

Of course what I am doing here as some of you would recognise is the Yasso 800s which you can read about here: http://www.runnersworld.com/article/0,7120,s6-238-244-255-624-0,00.html . Some precious souls think this is some sort of magical training method Bart Yasso never claims it to be any such thing. All he says is that he has found it to be an indicator of marathon times. It is not a means to an end. You still have to put in the time and distance necessary to run a marathon. I am simply using it as type of speed work which has to be better than no speed work at all.

Ewen have no fear
I can see the time is here
For another "technical" run
In the blazing Qld sun.

For if we go flat
There'll be no chance to chat
Given Eddie's fast pace
He'll blast me into space!

So I figure you are running about 3:22 at Canberra then.

Looks like Canberra will be a sweet run Rob.

I personally believe in the power of the Yassos...hence I am avoiding doing them at the moment ha ha

The blazing sun's no good
For down here in the 'hood
It's blowin' a gale and cold
Rob's pace will have to be bold
Chattering teeth, frozen hands
Even too cold for marching bands
Sub 3:20 and he'll be able to boast
Of beating Mark who burnt the toast.

Nice 800s Rob. 10 @ 3:18 and the beers will be on you.

No guarantee that the Yesso 800 times will be the marathon time but as you say do all the other training and 3.20 isa good number to aim for.
